World Standards Day

World Standards Day is celebrated yearly on October 14th in recognition of the collaboration and efforts of experts that “develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as International Standards,” per the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The event is also dedicated to spreading awareness about the need for standardized regulations for consumers and industries in the global economy.

Along with the ISO, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) are joined to in a shared vision for a better world, the theme for this year’s celebration.

Officially titled World Standards Day 2021 — Standards for SDGs Our Shared Vision for a Better World, the day revolves around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) put forth by ISO, IEC, and ITU. Three focuses of the SDGs are social imbalances, a sustainable economy, and climate change. Heads of ISO, IEC, and ITU released a joint statement to say, “by working together, we are empowering people with real-world solutions to face sustainability challenges head-on.”

The ISO 9001:2015 standard “specifies requirements for a quality management system.” The standard ensures that consistent products and services are provided to customers, in turn creating customer satisfaction. Petoskey Plastics has been certified under this standard since 2007.

Intertek places the number of global organizations with ISO 9001 certifications to be over 1.2 million. ISO 9001 standards that apply to quality management systems.
